1955 Reunion News

Save the Date! Mark your calendar now! Plan to attend the '55' reunion scheduled for April 30 - May 2, 2010!

For the GHS Class of 1955 and friends of '55: Plans for the 55th reunion for the GHS class of 55 have progressed; we’ve put together the tentative schedule; and, we want to touch base with you once again before the reunion. We’re looking forward to a great time! Following is our tentative schedule:

9:00 am: The hospitality room will open for registration setup and decorating.

10:00 am to 4:30 pm: Registration at the hospitality room will be open. Polly Aiello and/or Nancy Nichols will be there to see that you’re signed in and made aware of changes (if any) to the plans.

4:30 to 5:00 pm: We’ve arranged to ride the train from the casino to downtown Globe for our La Casita experience. We’re taking advantage of a special grant that was given to the city of Globe for the train experience which will cut the fare in half, ($4.75 ea) for the one way trip. Since the train doesn't run after 5:00 pm, a ride back to the casino via the casino vans has been arranged. For those who may not be comfortable walking the 4 blocks (3/10th of a mile) from the station to the La Casita, cars will be provided to drive you to the La Casita.

9:30 am: The hospitality room and registration will reopen. Everyone is welcome to gather at the hospitality room anytime between 9:30 am and the dinner/dance. Come by and meet with your former classmates. Stay or visit often and enjoy various refreshments and snacks. Our class book from the 50th reunion will be on display on the computer in the hospitality room.

Saturday: Two different historic tours have been arranged especially for our class. The community is offering us each of these two tours at two different times. One tour (The Museum tour) will be to the ‘Globe Historical Museum’ and ‘the Miami Historical and Mining Museum’. The other tour (The Globe Historic Tour) includes the old restored train depot, the train freight office, the old Globe jail and the Center for the Arts. Community members will be on hand to direct these tours.

Each of these two tours are being offered at two different times. The first set of tours, The Museum Tour or The Globe Historic Tour will begin at 9:30 on Saturday. The second set of tours (again The Museum Tour or The Globe Historic Tour) will start at l:00. So, you can participate in one of these tours in the morning and the other one in the afternoon; or, you can pick and choose just one tour, if you wish.

There is no charge for any of these tours; however, you’ll have to provide your own transportation to and from the tours. More information will be available at registration and you’ll be able to sign up for these tours at that time.

6:00 pm: Dinner/Dance at the Casino Resort with the well known and much loved band: “Miami Big Band Sound” of the Sanchez brothers from 8 until 11. No speeches are planned. There will be a few announcements.

Other information: This is an excellent time to hold the reunion as several celebrations and activities are taking place. The 'Cinco De Mayo' Fiesta will be held at the Besh-Ba-Gowah archaeological community center, 150 Jess Hayes Road in Globe on Friday and Saturday with 5 mariachi bands playing. There will be a fee.

Because of the local Cinco De Mayo Fiesta going on at this time, we strongly recommend you get your room reservations in as soon as possible. The special $55.00 a night rate for the Casino will be available only until the end of March. After that the price goes back up to it’s normal rate of $79.00. Other motels are also expected to fill up fast. For Reservations at the Casino Hotel - Phone: 1-800 APACHE-8 ext. 3600 and use the code “GHS”. If you have any problem getting through or getting the special rate, let anyone on the committee know and we’ll work with the casino hotel to get it straightened out.

In order to complete our plans for the reunion, it would help the committee if you could have your registration fees in by April 15th. If you’ve already replied that you will pay at the door, that is sufficient.

8:00 am: Breakfast is available at the Casino from the breakfast grill or breakfast buffet. Stop by, have breakfast with your classmates before you pack up to go home.

Please let us know if you’ll be attending by E-mail to or calling 602-478-0605 or snail mail: Jo Foti, 8909 N. 13th Ave, Phoenix, Az 85021. Please contact us if you have any questions or requests.

From your reunion committee:

Marda Lou Smith Schulte, Cathi Renon Nugent, Gloria Ybarra Robertson, Polly Kennedy Aiello, Nancy Bunch Nichols, Bobby Beydler and (Hazel) Jo Hardt Foti
